1960 austin healey 3000 bt7:the austin-healey 3000 was introduced in 1959, replacing the austin-healey 100-6. The original 3000 was built from march 1959 to march 1961 as models bn7 mark i (2-seater) and bt7 mark i (2+2 version). It featured a straight 6 cylinder engine, 2912 cc , with twin su carburetors and girling front disc brakes. Wire wheels, overdrive gearbox, laminated windscreen, heater, adjustable steering column, detachable hard top, and two-tone paint were available as options. A total of 13,650 mark i’s were made (2,825 bn7, and 10,825 bt7). The odometer shows 58,000 miles on it. We cannot verify this to be the actual mileage but it is likely the case considering its current condition. The interior is leather and in excellent condition. The car was originally red but was painted healy blue sometime back by the previous owner who had the car for over 20 years and lived in los gatos. The current owner purchased the car in 2012 and had all the chrome either replaced or redone and painted under the hood and under the car the same blue.

Diesel engine was pulled out of the machine, rebuilt, but never re-installed. It’s included and still in the rebuild crate. The head and tail components for the under screen conveyor are not included. The portions of the controls are not included. The previous owner owned several of these machines. Unfortunately when the engine failed this plant became their spare parts machine, hence the reason for the missing parts. .

The austin-healey 100 was built between 1953 and 1956 by bmc (british motor corporation). It was developed by donald healey to be produced in-house by healey’s small car company in warwick and based on austin a90 atlantic mechanics. Healey built a single “healey hundred”” for the 1952 london motor show, and the design impressed leonard lord, managing director of austin so much that a deal was struck with healey to build it in quantity at austin’s longbridge factory. The car was renamed the austin-healey 100. The ‘100’ name comes from donald healey, who selected the name from the car’s ability to reach 100mph. The first 100s (series bn1) were equipped with the same 90bhp engines and manual transmission as the stock a90, but the transmission was modified to be a three-speed unit with overdrive on second and top. The 2660cc engine featured an undersquare 87. 3 mm bore and 111. 1mm stroke. Girling 11″” drum brakes are fitted all round. Front suspension is independent using coil springs and at the rear is a rigid axle with semi elliptic leaf spring while the steering is by a cam and lever system. A bn1 tested by the motor magazine in 1953 had a top speed of 106mph and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 11. 2 seconds. These were built from may 1953, and replaced by the bn2 model in mid-1955. The first 100s (series “bn1″) were equipped with the same 90 bhp (67 kw) engines and manual transmission as the stock a90, but the transmission was modified to be a three-speed unit with overdrive on second and top. The 2660 cc i4 engine featured an undersquare 87. 3 mm (3. 4 in) bore and 111. 1 mm (4. 4 in) stroke. Girling 11 in (279. 4 mm) drum brakes are fitted all round. This car was purchased by original owner, ralph t. Boothe, in 1956 who drove the car throughout europe before importing it to the u. In 1962 boothe began a total disassembly of the car with the idea of creating a fast-back coupe, a very popular body style in the early ‘60’s. Boothe built a full-scale wood mock up and had california metal shaping of los angeles create the metal top out of 18ga. Final fabrication and paint was done by gill’s auto body shop in east los angeles. In 1966 this healy coupe appeared in the august issue of road & track magazine and was featured in austin healy magazine’s january-february 2010 edition.

The example we have here is one of those great original style cars, having only had two california owners since new. To find austin healey’s with such long ownership history is certainly a rarity now. Rust appears non-existent with floors that are amazing as is the trunk, wheel wells and rocker panels. The car has had a street style restoration over the years that included new paint, chrome, new interior and a rebuilt engine. Now the car still shows very well, with a nice very bright and restored look. We have the british motor industry heritage trust certificate showing the car still has matching engine, body and chassis numbers. Finished in its original old english white with red leather interior and black convertible top.
